Can foggy headlights be fixed or do I need to replace the whole unit?

I've been noticing that my headlights are getting really cloudy and yellowed over the past few months, to the point where I can actually see the difference in brightness when I drive at night compared to my friend's car which has crystal clear lenses. It's gotten so bad that I feel like I'm driving with candles instead of proper headlights, and honestly it's starting to feel a bit unsafe on those unlit roads especially when there's fog or dust in the air. I looked into buying new headlight assemblies but the prices are absolutely ridiculous for my car model, we're talking thousands of dirhams just for the pair which is more than I want to spend on a car that's already getting older. I've seen those DIY kits in the shops that claim to restore cloudy headlights with sandpaper and some kind of polish, but I'm a bit skeptical about how well they actually work and whether they'll just look good for a week and then go cloudy again. I've also heard that professional restoration involves sanding down the old UV coating and reapplying a new protective layer, which sounds like it would last much longer. I've been asking around and trying to find a place that offers reliable headlight restoration in Abu Dhabi because I figure if a professional does it properly with the right equipment, it should last a good few years before needing attention again. Has anyone here had their headlights professionally restored and can tell me whether it actually made a noticeable difference in visibility, or is it mostly just cosmetic? Also roughly what should I expect to pay for this kind of service so I don't end up overpaying?
